Blogging Business Plan

Your blog should be operated as a business, and all good businesses begin with and follow a plan. With this in mind we want to write a business plan of sorts for your blog. The plan should entail why you are or have created your blog and what it is you want to accomplish. This is where you will list your goals in a way that will be encouraging to you. The goals for your blog can be anything from driving traffic, to increasing subscriptions, to creating awareness.

Goals for my blog:

  • Connect with like minded individuals via social networking.
  • Inform said individuals on the topics of marketing and social media.
  • Advance the knowledge and careers of said individuals and myself.

Also, a clear vision statement for your blog should be written. Your vision should complement and mesh with your goals.

Vision for my blog:

  • Inspire readers to achieve their goals by providing avenues for knowledge gathering and educating.

One very important thing to keep in mind is that your goals and vision will develop and grow therefore, your plan will change with them. Be sure to keep your plan updated so you can see and know where you are going and why. Another good idea is to print out your plan and post it in an obvious place as a reminder of what you want to achieve.

Now it is your turn. Have you developed a plan for your blog? Let me know what you come up with.

  1. Cynthia,

It’s evident that you are currently pursuing a career in the SM field. I like how when I click on your “About Me” section, it redirects me to LinkedIn. It appears you are very tech savy. Are you planning on being an independent contractor with the aspirations of teaching people how to effectively utilize SM applications? With all of the young independent SM contractors out there, I believe this to be your opportunity. Essentially, you will be selling yourself to clients/customers. The way you could differentiate yourself is by adding at the beginning of all your applications, a service message such as, “The promise to effectively manage your organizations SM applications, with the utmost professionalism.” Just an idea! 🙂

  2. C,
Oh now you tell me. : ) Actually, I do have a plan and it was “listed” within my first blog. I’ve strayed a bit from the original plan but it is similar and thought this may happen. Thanks for the blog insight. ko

  3. I think a lot of people don’t always know what they want to accomplish with their blogs. It may be hard to be succussful with out direction and an exact plan, but I think they can also evolve into successful blogs as people find their voice and purpose. I just think sometimes too much stucture can stifle what some folks are trying to say while others will fail without structure. It is an adventure that won’t be the same for any two people.

  4. I like your thought process here. Your so right, a lot of blogs, business ideas and such lack any type of plan. Sticking to a plan would keep you focused and on track. I will follow your advice for sure. Great Post!
